We've been to Rasa twice. The first time we went on a Sunday brunch. There was a live DJ who was spinning great soulful tunes – a lot of deep tracks from artists and LPs from the 60s and 70s. The atmosphere is very bright with a white decor accented by lots of live plants. It was busy and we hadn't made reservations (do so!) and so we had to wait for a while but the music made that pleasant. We ordered avocado toast, which comes out on a very well-toasted piece of bread (think crostini) with an interesting array of berries planted within a healthy portion of avocado. It really is beautiful to look at, though we found the bread a bit hard to eat. We also had the soba and zucchini noodles, served with peppers, ginger miso dressing and wasabi dust. This dish was the real hit for us. According to email correspondence we had with the chef, salads can be made vegan and there is usually a vegan soup and dessert. When we went, however, these weren't options.
We decided to try Rasa for dinner to try the full menu and we are so glad that we did. First off, there was a vegan soup, a curry pumpkin that was rich and delicious, served with another piece of very well-toasted bread. For entrees, we had two options and ordered both. The Acorn on the Half is an acorn squash filled with black Japanica rice, sauteed mushrooms and a pureed sauce made from sweet potato. The Cauliflower Steak had several big pieces of cauliflower perfectly roasted, with a quinoa and farro risotto. Both of these dishes far exceeded expectations and were two of the best vegan dishes we have ever had in Toledo. The flavors were rich and unique and the dishes weren't overly oily or salty. The only downside was that they didn't have any vegan dessert options, though that might have been a good thing as we were already delightfully stuffed.
If you are looking for fine dining in the Toledo area with good vegan options, you must try Rasa. The food is creative and the atmosphere is very chic. They have a nice wine list and a cocktail menu. Also, they try to source food ingredients locally, which is always a plus. Check Rasa out!
