Cocina de Carlos deserves a special award from Vegan Toledo in that we think it is the only restaurant around that has a special portion of their menu devoted just to vegan items. There are five items on the menu that are clearly labeled vegan: Vegan Tarasca Soup, Vegan Azteca Fajitas, Vegan Street Tacos, Vegan Pineapple and Vegan Enchilada Dinner (it appears the soup is not available at the Waterville location). All dishes except the soup come with vegan refried beans, guacamole and Spanish rice. As all vegans know, there is a huge amount of relief when finding a menu that clearly labels items as vegan as you don’t need to ask questions, explain and negotiate with the server and chef.

All of the dishes are excellent though we warn that the portion sizes are large. Our typical order for the two of us is the fajitas along with the bowl of Tarasca soup. The soup is relatively light (broth with pinto beans and cactus) whereas the other dishes can be heavier. We applaud Cocina de Carlos for clearly labeling their menu and providing multiple options for vegans!

We also note that the Perrysburg location carries 5 Rabbits beers, a microbrewery out of Chicago founded by Mexican-Americans and generally delicious!

We go out to eat a lot and we go to Cocina de Carlos in Waterville at least a couple of times a month. My teenagers and husband order from the vegan menu and love it, especially the vegan fajitas and vegan enchiladas. I order bean burritos found on the main menu section and ask for no cheese or sour cream. I get them with a side of rice. It's so nice to be able to have rice, beans and tortillas all without animal products, all without making a fuss. And it's delicious! Their red burrito sauce and salsa are very good, their beans are mild and their rice is mild, too, no porky, smokey or odd tastes. I'd love to see them add a vegan chimichanga or a few seasonal vegan dishes, but mostly because we end up there so often! So grateful for their no-fuss vegan dining. Bonus if you go to the Waterville location: they've kept the Smedlap Smithy slide that goes from the top floor to the first floor and kids of all ages love it!

Love cocina de carlos in perrysburg. We go to the buffet they have from 12-2 quite often. There guacamole is sooo good. Oh and the vegan pinapple is awesome. I get it without the vegan meat but others say its good with it also. Its a half of a pineapple filled with veggies including cactus which you dont find often. Go try it out. 😆

I've been to the Cocina De Carlos Perrysburg location (great to see the Vegan Toledo sticker right on the welcome door) and the Waterville location more than a few times - with family and on my own. I love this restaurant and the ease of ordering with the vegan items menu area all together + they can veganize "vegana" other items on the menu - just ask. The staff was always super friendly and helpful too. They were very accomodating. I've had their vegan street tacos as is and made to preference. I enjoyed their enchilada vegan dinner and the Don Charly vegan pineapple. They also offer lunch portions around lunch time. Fantastic food. Thanks for the referral Vegan Toledo!
