Hot Head Burritos is like Chipotle and Qdoba in that it is a build-your-own burrito place. You can choose burrito, bowl, tacos, nachos or quesadillas as your foundation. And then you pick the veggies, sauces and toppings.

They have black beans and pinto beans (both vegan), grilled vegetables, shredded iceberg lettuce, fresh onions, banana peppers, jalapeños and guacamole with several salsas, too. The signature touch of Hot Head is there wide range of sauces that you can add. Sauces that are vegan are sweet habanero, Louisiana green, Louisiana red, Tabasco chipotle, Louisiana horseradish, Cholula hot sauce and extreme and straight habanero. There is a honey BBQ for those who eat honey.

Guacamole is free for vegetable burritos (and the other veg entrees), which is a nice touch. Their web site is helpful in that they have an allergen chart with milk and egg listed on there. One of the things that we like about Hot Head is that they have a small burrito and small bowl. For those of us who feel like we have to eat everything on our plate, this is a nice way to get some portion control (and save some $$$).

Hot Head is a regional chain with two locations in Northwest Ohio. They pride themselves on having fresh vegetables prepared daily. We enjoyed our meal there!

It’s easy to get a vegan meal at Blue Pacific Grill because you choose all of the ingredients yourself! This is a Mongolian barbecue-inspired type of place where there are several refrigerated cases of food. You are given a bowl and can fill your bowl up with as much as you can. Then you choose a sauce, as well as a starch and they grill all of your choices right in front of you. One trick is picking ingredients that go well with each other and so we recommend studying all available options before plunging in. Also, there are probably tricks to filling your bowl as high as possible. For example, put broccoli on top after all other ingredients! (Share if you have good ideas on this!)

A few tips navigating Blue Pacific Grill. There are lots of vegan choices for the portion that you choose from the salad bar-type display: tofu, broccoli, water chestnuts, onions, beans, baby corn and many more (you can see the whole list here: http://www.thebluepacificgrill.com/Create_Your_Bowl.html)

In terms of sauces, some are vegan and some are not. Sauces that vegan are: Caribbean jerk, mango habanero, lava, roasted tomato, sweet and sour, ginger citrus, island teriyaki, Thai peanut, lemon garlic herb, Asian BBQ and zesty orange. (Honey garlic soy is okay if you eat honey.) There is an ingredient list for the sauces readily available at the restaurant.

In terms of starches, there are brown and white rice, lettuce wraps, whole wheat pita and zucchini noodles. We asked about the udon noodles and the manager went back to check the ingredient list on the box but couldn’t find it. He believed there were eggs in the udon.

You hand your bowls to the grillers. They are willing to clean the grill if you ask for them to do so, and they will give extra space on each side to ensure yours doesn't mix with other dishes also cooking on the large, circular grill. They were quite friendly about this and did a thorough job of it.

This restaurant is locally-owned and is not part of a chain. They have outdoor seating and a bar with cocktails, wine and craft beer including Maumee Bay on tap. As vegans, it is so difficult to eat out because we give up control of what goes into our meals. This is a great place to go and really know what goes into your entrée!

We have been to Tandoor many times before, though it is a different experience when thinking about writing a review from a vegan perspective. We went on a Sunday for lunch, while they were serving their lunch buffet. Items on the buffet were not labeled vegan, though after asking the staff, they identified two entrée items as vegan: a lentil dish and an okra dish. We decided to order off the menu instead, choosing some of our favorites.

The menu has a separate vegetarian section and has items clearly labeled that can be prepared vegan (the appetizer section is not labeled, however). There were eight options that could be made vegan. We ordered the aloo ghobi masala (potatoes and cauliflower) and channa masala (chickpeas). We also ordered vegetable samosas and roti, which is similar to naan bread though made with wheat (their naan is not vegan). We were also served papadum, thin crispy wafers made out of lentils.

The food was delicious and we were served large portions. The Tandoor provides great food and should be high on all vegans’ restaurant lists.

We had seen that BREW coffee bar, a coffee shop near The University of Toledo campus, was advertising a vegan brownie on Twitter and thought we’d check them out.

As advertised, they had a vegan brownie, made by Bri’s Bakehouse (https://www.facebook.com/Brisbakehouse/) that was tasty and went well with our teas as we enjoyed a pleasant hour or so reading. The server told us that they always have at least one vegan baked good there, and so if you’re looking for a place to relax and have a vegan snack, BREW coffee bar is worth checking out.

They have a cute little #BrewLibrary where you can take or a leave a book, a nice little touch as well. They have soy milk available as well if you want a coffee drink with milk.
