If you read no further, the food is delicious and full of exciting flavors. Although we have always enjoyed the vegan food at the other Carlos restaurants, the vegan options were generally modifications of other non-vegan standards. At Carlos Que Pasa, all options were designed from the start to be vegan and the flavor combinations are creative, memorable and delicious.
We tried the Taco Trio, which were three tacos, one filled with vegan chorizo, another with piccadillo and the three filled Al Pastor. We also had the Pozole Soup, which had a rich broth filled with portobello mushrooms and hominy. Finally, we had two awesome tamales, one filled with a vegan cheese sauce and jalapeno, and another with red mole, zucchini and portobello. There are a variety of salsas and toppings you can get that vary in terms of spiciness (we tried them all and found that the heat ranged from mild to enjoyably hot), as well as vegan cheese, fresh guacamole and vegan sour cream.
Besides the fresh and zesty tastes, we also appreciated that the food simply felt less heavy than traditional Mexican food but still filling. We will be back again and again and are excited about this new venture. And we love that the restaurant is 100% vegan and so there is no concern about cross-contamination, something that unfortunately happens in a lot of restaurants. And for our gluten-free friends, this is another game changer in town!!
