NOTE: Holey Toledough is no longer co-located with Macs n' Melts. They are only operating the food truck, which does not carry vegan options. We have heard a new retail location is coming soon, and that vegan donuts will come back at that time. We will update as soon as we have more information! 4/23/18

They have offered a variety of flavors and seem to have three at any time, though they can sell out quickly. There is a peanut butter and jelly-filled donut that has grape jam along with a subtle peanut butter that might be in the donut or in the sugar glaze (or both) topped with chopped peanuts. There is a vegan apple fritter that is rich with sugar glaze. Also, we have had two varieties of vegan glazed donuts. The first time a lemon thyme glazed cake donut was available; the most recent time there was a lime ginger donut. The lemon thyme had more of a subtle flavor and the lime ginger was more forward.
The donuts aren't labeled vegan and so just make sure to ask the staff which ones are vegan when you go (We'd love it if there were a sign--ask about our vegan donut options, in case you just stumbled in--may of us wouldn't think to ask if we hadn't heard about it on Facebook.). They seemed to be trained well on which ones were vegan. In fact, one of the staff members in the Perrysburg location made a point to inform people who ordered the vegan donuts and ate them in the store: "by the way, that donut was vegan. Make sure to tell your vegan friends that they can get donuts here." We appreciated the outreach.
The first time we went was around lunchtime and there was only one vegan variety left; this most recent time we went on a Saturday morning and all three were available. So go early!
We are excited about this partnership between Macs N Melts and Holey Toledough and were excited to find out that Macs N Melts has vegan options as well, and so look out for a future review.
In terms of the vegan wish list, now that we have vegan donuts available, it's time for a restaurant to step up and offer a robust menu of vegan breakfast options (tofu scrambler please!) and we sure hope somebody can put a vegan banh mi sandwich on their menu too!
