Pizza Fire is an Ohio-based chain that is now in Toledo. They feature brick-oven pizzas that are made in a style like Subway or Chipotle where you see the ingredients and your pizza is made right in front of you. Once you pick the ingredients, it’s put in a brick-oven pizza and baked for three minutes.

For vegans, you have a lot of options. First off, the crust is vegan and the Neapolitan red sauce and the Neapolitan spicy red sauce are both vegan. They have vegan cheese (it tasted like the Daiya version of mozzarella) available for $1 extra. Finally, you have a large number of vegetables that you can choose from: black or green olives, fresh basil (grown in the store), spinach, arugula, red onions, jalapenos, mushrooms, giardinara (pickled Italian vegetables), artichoke hearts, tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, green peppers, roasted red peppers and more.

The pizzas are basically enough for one person and so we both experimented with our own set of toppings. The spicy red sauce really was spicy, not too hot for us, though we tend to like hot stuff. If you have a hard time with heat, you might want to go with the regular red sauce. For others, the spicy red will be just your thing. They put just the right amount of vegan cheese on there (not too overwhelming), and the mix of vegetables to choose from was really exciting.

Toledo has several brick-oven pizza places now that have good options for vegans. 5th Street Pub has a full service bar, whereas there is no alcohol at Pizza Fire. This is high-quality pizza with fast food service times. We had our pizzas to eat within five minutes of stepping up to the counter to create our pizzas.

We’re happy Pizza Fire is in Toledo and encourage you to check it out.
