They promise 3 items (1 entrée and 2 sides) each meal plus dessert. We have eaten there somewhat frequently and generally they meet that pledge. Today for lunch, there were two types of calzones (one spicy and seemingly of a Cuban origin), vegan garlic bread, and a Tuscan kale salad (with daiya cheese on top of it). No dessert this lunch, but nearly every time there has been a dessert. The food rotates from lunch and dinner and across days, and so there is always a new surprise.
Besides the vegan station, there are many other vegan options throughout the other stations, including a salad bar that has fresh fruit and typical salad vegetables. Often there are other options. Today there was steamed asparagus at one station, as well as several types of fries if you craved something unhealthy (we have not yet checked if they use separate fryers for meat items and fries).
BGSU’s Shoots has received a Compassionate Campus Award from PETA, an award they display proudly. If you are visiting Bowling Green, Shoots is definitely worth a visit (we recommend parking in the metered area outside of the nearby student union or by Dunkin' Donuts, which is in the same building complex as The Oaks). Lunch is slightly less than $10 if paying cash, and a bit more for dinner. Be careful though… it’s often hard to limit your food intake at a buffet. Piling your plate high with vegan food and going back several times can be unhealthy. So eat with restraint!
Cheers to BGSU for providing healthy vegan options!
